Oilers Clinch Bid to G-MAC Tournament

Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay men's soccer team defeated the Malone University Pioneers in a 3-1 final at DeHaven field on Saturday October 7.

The conference victory boosts the Oilers to a 9-2 (8-2) record for the season, while the Pioneers fall to 1-10 (1-8). This win clinches a spot for the Oilers in the Great Midwest Conference tournament at the end of the year.

The Oilers started out strong, with junior Josh Burton knocking in his first of two goals only eight minutes into the first half. The goal was assisted by sophomore Josh Dickinson.

Malone tied the match in the 14th minute of play, making the score 1-1 going into halftime.

Findlay came out firing in the second half, with Burton scoring his second goal of the day just two minutes into the second half on another assist from Dickinson. The Oilers extended their lead in the 67th minute when Dickinson knocked in a goal of his own on an assist from freshman Marcel Munger.

The Oilers attempted 27 shots during the match with 14 of those being on goal, compared to just 11 shot attempts with 5 on goal for the Pioneers.

Senior Ben Richter received the decision at the net for the Oilers, recording three saves on the day.

The Oilers will be on the road for their next match when they travel to face the Tiffin University Dragons on Wednesday October 11. The contest is set to begin at 12:00 PM.
