Oilers End Regular Season with Tie at Tiffin

Tiffin, OH - The University of Findlay men's soccer team wrapped up the 2019 regular season on Tuesday, Nov. 5 with a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup on the road against the Tiffin Dragons. The contest ended in a tie at 1-1 which gives the Oilers a 9-6-2 record on the year and a 6-6-2 mark in conference play while the Dragons move to 8-4-5 overall with a 6-4-4 mark in the G-MAC. It is the third time in five years that Findlay has reached the nine-win mark in a season.

Findlay, which needed a win to have a shot at hosting a first-round game in the conference playoffs, got on the board first when, 27 minutes into the contest, freshman Harrison Szep scored just his second goal of the season to give the Orange and Black the 1-0 lead.

The Oilers then survived seven shots over the next 46 minutes of action, still clinging to their one-goal lead. However, in the 77th minute, Tiffin broke through as Leo Hasenstab scored his conference-best 12th goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

Over the two overtime periods, Findlay did manage four shots, but none of which found the back of the net, ending the contest in a tie.

Findlay held the advantage, firing off 17 shots to Tiffin's 16.

Freshman Garrett Arbogast was in the Oilers' goal for the duration of the game and made five saves in 110:00 minutes of action.

Junior Alex Kerstetter led the team with four shots on goal while Szep had five shots, three on goal, and one goal. Junior Josh Hales managed three shots, two of which were on goal.

The Oilers currently sit in sixth place in the G-MAC standings and will hit the road for their quarterfinal game on Saturday, Nov. 9. The time and location of that game is yet to be decided.
