Oilers Shutout Cavaliers 3-0 | David Hug Scores Twice

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's soccer team took the field against the Walsh Cavaliers in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup. The Oilers shutout the Cavaliers 3-0 to improve their record to 3-2-3 (3-2-3) while the Cavaliers fall to 3-5-1 (2-5-0).

The Oilers who outshoot the Cavaliers 21 to 10 in the contest, scored rather quickly in the 7th minute of the game. Sophomore David Hug took a pass from senior Josh Hales to find the back of the net and push the lead to 1-0 in favor of the Oilers.

Hales decided to score a goal himself in the 33rd minute when he was able to get by the Cavaliers' defense and go one on one with the goalie to score before the half.

The Cavaliers attempted to put one on the scoreboard with eight shot attempts in the second half, but the Oilers defense remained strong and prevailed in the shutout win. However, just before the final horn, Hug used a deflection off the Cavaliers' goalkeeper from a saved shot attempt by senior Alex Kerstetter to score his second goal of the game.

The Oilers had six different players with at least one shot attempt, and three players with four or more shot attempts on the day. Hug attempted six shots, three on goal, freshman Nick McCracken finished with five attempts, all of on goal, and Hales with four shots, two being on goal.

Defending the goal for the Oilers was sophomore Andrew Boulton recording his second shutout victory of the season tallied three saves on the day.

The Oilers will be at home for the final regular season game when the Tiffin Dragons come to DeHaven Field on Saturday, April 17. The game is set for a 3:00 p.m. start.
