Oilers Come Up Short in OT Thriller

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay men's soccer team took DeHaven Field on Saturday, April 17 for a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) matchup versus the Tiffin Dragons. Prior to the game, two seniors were honored for Senior Day, Josh Hales and Ryker Penner. The game turned out to be an overtime thriller where the Dragons prevailed over the Oilers 3-2 in overtime. With the loss, the Oilers fall to 3-3-3 and the Dragons move to 4-3 on the season.

In a game that saw all five goals scored in final 47 minutes of the game, the scoring did not begin until a 48th minute goal by the Dragons right out of halftime. Within eight minutes, the Dragons put another goal to the back of the net in the 56th minute to see the Oilers quickly down 2-0 at the start of the 2nd half.

Down 2-0, the Oilers found momentum after a red card on the Dragons. The Oilers took advantage of the Dragons being down a man on the field due to the card. Senior Josh Hales rallyed to score in the 75th minute of the contest on an unassisted goal. With the momentum ramping up, Hales went on to find sophomore David Hug just two minutes later in the 77th minute to tie everything up 2-2. The intensity continued through till the end of 90 minutes and into the overtime period.

In overtime, Carvalho for the Dragons was able to break between the middle of two defenders and successfully score to end the game in overtime in 91th minute to end the Oilers' comeback hopes on Senior Day.

The Oilers ended the game being outshot by the Dragons 21 to 14 in the game. Hales led the Oilers' attack with five shots, two on goal, and one assist. Sophomore Harrison Szep and Hug added two shots each as well. Senior Ben Bolinger, junior Patryk Kibler, junior Jon Kramer, and sophomore Jimmy Harding added one a piece.

Sophomore goalkeeper Andrew Boulton secured eight saves in the loss.

The Oilers will await the final results to find out what seed they will be playing in the G-MAC Conference Championship set to begin on Saturday, September 24th with the site and time to be determined.
