Oilers Complete Day 1 in Ashland

The University of Findlay men's tennis team competed at the first day of competition at the Spreng-Smith Invitational in Ashland, Ohio on Oct. 11

In A singles competition, Soh Kuyama defeated West Liberty's Anton Schulz 7-5, 7-5 before falling 6-2, 6-1 to Ashland's Priyank Soni while Jorge Barnuevo lost 6-4, 6-3 to UC Ben Lakeman and 6-2, 7-5 to Ashland's Stu Brdicka.

In B singles, Andrew Codita lost 6-1, 6-3 to Ashland's Colten Clark and fell 4-6, 7-6, 10-5 to West Liberty's Joris Gravoulet. Alfred Berlango won 7-6, 6-2 against West Liberty's Gianluca Gerndt before falling 6-2, 6-2 to Ashland's Jordan Phelps.

In C singles, Mark Ivanov won 6-1, 6-3 against Charleston's Travis Shaw before losing 6-2, 6-1 to Ashland's Terrence Tehe. Ivaylo Slavov won 6-1, 7-6 against Charlestons's Adam Malouf and defeated West Liberty's Zarion Jones 6-2, 6-0.

In A doubles, Soy Kuyama and Mark Ivanov defeated West Liberty's Gerndt and Schulz 7-5 and claimed a 7-5 win over Charleston's Alek Garcin and Jason Prince.

Jorge Barnuevo and Alfredo Berlango lost 6-1 to Charleston's Ben Lakeman and Joao Tayar before beating West Liberty's Gravoulet and Dulac 6-3.

In B Doubles, Ivaylo Slvov and Andrew Codita won 6-1 over UC Martinez/Phillips and advanced to the semifinals by defeating Charleston's Bryson Tye and Sam Bowman.
