Men's Tennis Defeats Hillsdale in Dramatic Fashion

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's tennis team took on the Hillsdale College Chargers on Sunday, March 19 at the Findlay East YMCA. The Oilers came away with a hard-fought 4-3 victory, needed a dramatic win at sixth-singles to clinch the win. With the win, Findlay is now 8-6 on the year with a 2-0 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play.

After winning the doubles point, Findlay dropped both first and second singles to quickly fall behind 2-1 in the match.

Shortly after, Alfredo Berlanga secured his win at third singles to pull the match back even at 2-2.

A win at fourth singles by Wilfredo Lara put Findlay ahead, but the Chargers were victorious at fifth singles, tying the event at 3-3 with one match to play.

It came down to Dallas Ramsey vs. Daniel Gilbert for the match. Ramsey, leaning on his dynamic serve-and-volley, won the first set easily, winning 6-2, but, after leading 4-2 in the second, lost four straight games to send the match into a third set. Tied at 3-3 in the third set, Ramsey broke GIlbert's serve to take a 4-3 lead. After losing the first point of the next game, he won four consecutive points, holding serve and taking a 5-3 advantage. He then broke Gilbert's serve again, winning four straight points to seal the match.
