Oilers Split with Cedarville

Cedarville, OH – The University of Findlay split a G-MAC double-header against the Cedarville University Yellow Jackets on Saturday, April 28. The games bring the Oilers to 26-19 on the year with a 16-4 record in conference play, while the Yellow Jackets move to 30-16 (19-5).

Game 1 | W 8 – 3

The first game of the double-header was closer than the final score may appear, as it went 10 total innings in a contest that took two hours and 38 minutes to complete.

Cedarville got on the board right away in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on two separate RBI singles to take the early lead.

Offense went vacant for both teams in the next three innings, with each team going one, two, three in the third and fourth.

Findlay broke the spell in the top of the fifth, scoring two runs of their own to even the score.

Evyn Kachenmeister began the inning with a leadoff walk and was replaced at first base with pinch runner Emily Barr.

After another walk from Madison Arnold, Kelley Cejer reached first on an error that loaded the bases for the Oilers.

Devyn Zuro made sure this opportunity did not go wasted, knocking a single to right field that scored Barr and Arnold for Findlay's first runs of the game.

The Yellow Jackets broke the tie in their next at-bat, scoring a go-ahead run on a throwing error from the outfield.

After a quiet sixth from both teams, the Oilers were able to scrape across a run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.

Arnold started the inning with a single, and later advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Kelley Cejer.

Zuro stepped to the plate in another clutch situation, and again delivered a crucial RBI with a single up the middle that scored Arnold and tied the game.

Neither team scored again until the Oilers broke the game wide open in the top of the tenth, scoring five runs on the Yellow Jacket defense.

Scoring was highlighted by a two-run homerun from Destinie Keeton that cleared the leftfield fence to claim the initial lead in the inning.

Also contributing RBIs in the inning were Brooke Otto on a triple to the right field gap and Sadie Gearhart.

Starting on the mound for the Oilers was Hailey Bryan, who in her eight innings allowed nine hits, three runs (two earned), and three walks while striking out seven Cedarville batters.

Megan Fisher entered the game in the ninth inning and was awarded the victory. In Fisher's two innings pitched, she allowed no hits, zero runs, and walked three batters while striking out one.

Game 2 |L 2 – 5

Cedarville jumped out to another early lead in game two, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first on a triple and a wild pitch.

The Yellow Jackets added another run to their lead in the bottom of the third, when a runner on third stole home to bring the score to a 3-0 deficit for the Oilers.

More runs were added to the Cedarville lead in the fourth and fifth, and the Oilers finally got on the board by scoring two runs in the top of the sixth inning.

The inning began with a quick out on a ground ball to the pitcher, followed by a walk from Evyn Kachenmeister.

After Rachel Vander Roest entered the game as a pinch runner, she was moved to second on a single from the bat of Madison Arnold.

Devyn Zuro stayed hot offensively in her next at-bat, hitting a single to the left field gap that scored Vander Roest from second.

One batter later, freshman Brooke Otto delivered another single that scored Arnold and brought the score to 5-2.

That would be it though, as the Oilers were unable to score in the top of the seventh, leaving the 5-2 score as the final.

Starting the game and receiving the loss was Megan Fisher, who went 3 innings while allowing two hits, three runs (earned), walking two batters and recording three strikeouts.

Molly Crosby entered the game in the fourth inning and went for two innings while allowing two runs (one earned), two hits, and no walks.

Caragyn Yanek pitched the last inning for Findlay and allows no runs, zero hits, and struck out one Yellow Jacket hitter.

Findlay will be back on the field Sunday, April 29 when they travel to Ohio Dominican for a G-MAC double-header that wraps up their regular season. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.
