Oilers Fall in Final Two Games in Rosemont

Rosemont, Ill. - The University of Findlay softball team played at The Dome in Rosemont, Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 22nd. In the first game, the Oilers fell to host, Lewis University, by a score of 6-3 and then dropped the second game of the day to Wisconsin Parkside by a score of 5-0. After the two losses, the Oilers' record moves to 2-4 on the year.

Game 1 (L 6-3 vs. Lewis)

The Oilers were on the board first after a bases loaded walk to Rebecca Harvey in the top half of the second inning brought in Madelyn Turner to put the Oilers up one. Lewis would answer in the third to ties things up, and then break open the scoring in the bottom of the fourth.

Lewis put together a four run fourth inning to take control of the contest with their 5-1 lead. Findlay quickly came back in the next half inning putting up two runs on two hits by Rebecca Harvey and Megan Fisher. Heading to the bottom half of the fifth the Oilers were in striking distance to mount a comeback with the score set at 5-3.

The Flyers of Lewis put on yet another run after two doubles in the inning to push their lead to 6-3. The Oilers went quietly for the remainder of the game.

The Oilers finished the game with five hits, led by Megan Fisher with a pair of singles, along with Turner, Dylan Willey, and Rebecca Harvey having one. They left nine runners on base throughout the game.

Megan Fisher took the loss in the circle to fall to 1-2 on the year. She tossed four innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits, walked two and struck out three. Caragyn Yanek tossed two innings in relief allowing one earned run on three hits.

Game 2 (L 5-0 vs. Parkside)

The Oilers struggled to get their offense going against Wisconsin Parkside as they were held scoreless in the seven inning contest. Neither team through the first three innings were able to get anything going on offense as it was a pitcher dual in the afternoon game.

Parkside finally tallied on a big fourth inning of their own to move the needle in their favor. Parkside ended their half of the fourth with 5-0 advantage on three hits.

Findlay got their first hit of the game in the fifth inning when Emily Barr singled. The spark of the offense did not continue however, and the Oilers remained hitless for the remainder of the contest.

In the game, the Oilers scored zero runs on one hit and committed no errors.

In the circle, Caragyn Yanek tossed three innings allowing just one hit, walked two and struck out three batters. Carly Brandon took the relief from their allowing five earned runs on two hits and walked three. The final pitcher for Findlay was Lyndsey Seamon who closed out the remainder of the game. She tossed four innings, gave up three hits, one walk and struck out four batters.

The Oilers will be back on the road in a week when they play Davenport and Saint Anselm on Saturday, Feb. 29 in Winter Haven, Florida. The games are scheduled to begin at 9:00 am and 11:15 am.
