Findlay, Ohio-  The University of Findlay softball team made it another sweep on Saturday, April 8, winning both games of a doubleheader against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. The Oilers cleaned up with wins of 11-1 and 3-2 to sweep their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) counterpart. With the two wins, Findlay improves to 23-8 on the year with a 8-2 record in the G-MAC while Kentucky Wesleyan, falls to 9-32 overall with a 0-12 record in league action.

The opener quickly tilted in favor of the Oilers who would pour on eight runs in the first two innings. Three runs on four hits in the first got the barrage started and five runs on seven hits in the second put the game out of reach very early on.

In those first two innings, senior Olivia Carlton, senior Makayla Cowan, and sophomore Rachel Mease each had two RBI while freshman Annika Bredel also had an RBI which came on a second inning double.

The Oilers added three more runs in the third to put Findlay up 11-0. In the fourth, the Panthers were able to put a single run on the board but it was the home team that took the win in five innings.

In the circle for the Oilers was freshman Kora Navarro who pitched all five innings. She gave up just one run on three hits. She walked five and struck out two.

After an impressive opener, Findlay struggled to find that same momentum. The game was scoreless through four innings. The Oilers put a run on the board in the fifth inning but the Panthers tied it up in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, sophomore Brooke Radermacher scored on a failed pickoff to give the Oilers the lead. Senior Kaitlynn Briggs, pinch hitting for the Orange and Black, singled up the middle to send sophomore Rachel Mease home. Kentucky Wesleyan scored one more in the seventh inning but it was too little, too late.

Senior Molly Pfiffner was the starter for game two and would work for five innings, allowing one run on six hits. Freshman Kayla Dykin got her eighth win of the year as she threw just the sixth and seventh innings. She allowed one hit and struck out one batter.

The Oilers will be back in action Tuesday, April 11 as they travel to take on the Tiffin Dragons in a double header starting at 3pm.
