Offense Sputters vs TNU | Oilers Swept in Doubleheader

Nashville, Tenn. – The University of Findlay softball team traveled to the southern-most school in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference on Saturday, April 15, taking on the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans in a doubleheader in Nashville, Tenn. The Oilers lost both games, the first by a score of 8-2 and the second by run-rule, 8-0. With the two defeats, Findlay falls to 24-11 on the year with a 9-5 record in G-MAC play while Trevecca moves to 29-11 and stays in second in the league at 13-3 in conference action.

TNU wasted no time taking a lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Findlay's lone runs of the day would come five innings later. In the top of the sixth, Makayla Cowan singled to lead off the inning and Bailey Bates was hit by a pitch. After a strikeout, another hit by pitch was issued to Caroline Turner. After a lineout, with the bases loaded, Annika Bredel doubled to left center, scoring two runs and making the score 3-2.

The Trojans then poured it on in the sixth, scoring five runs on the strength of a three-run home run, a solo home run, and an RBI double in the inning.

Freshman Kayla Dykin suffered the loss in the circle as she three four innings and allowed three runs on seven hits. She walked one and struck out one.

Findlay had just four hits in the game, two of which were off the bat of Bredel.

The second game was all TNU. Two runs in the first put the home team ahead 2-0, and again, Findlay's offense struggled to get anything going, and would ultimately go the whole game without getting a baserunner past second base.

Emma Jones took the loss to fall to 12-2 on the year as she threw four innings and allowed five runs on eight hits. She struck out four batters.

Findlay is back in action this Tuesday, April 18 for a makeup doubleheader with Cedarville University. That affair will begin at 3:00 pm.
