Oilers Sweep Ashland in the Pool

RESULTS

Ashland, Ohio – The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams took on Ashland University in a dual on Saturday, Jan. 23 in Ashland, Ohio. The Oilers came away with the sweep as the men won by a score of 158-27 and the women won 133-95.

Men

The Oilers 400 yard medley team of sophomore Tim Stollings, freshman Daniel Garcia, freshman Adam Hornak, and freshman Kristofers Bregis teamed up to win with a time of 3:28.16 to earn 11 points.

Bregis later took top spot in the 200 yard freestlye with a 1:46.08 while freshman Luca Chiandussi followed that up with a 22.14 in the 50 free, also earning the victory.

Garcia later swam in the 400 yard IM and took first, touching the wall in 4:07.88, and also won the 100 yard breaststroke with a 57.58. Freshman Aidan Shue, who took second in the 400 yard IM, later won the 100 yard butterfly with a 53.58.

All-American Tim Stollings won the 100 yard freestyle with a 47.58 while senior Nathan Bourne was close behind with a 49.27. In the 100 yard backstroke, junior Paul Pavala took the top spot with a 53.95.

Hornak won the 500 yard freestyle, defeating his teammate Kristofers Bregis, with a time of 4:52.39.

Senior Dalton Shevlin was the only men's diver to compete and scored a 270.05 in the 1 meter board and a 277.95 in the 3 meter board.

Pavala, Jared Toaz, freshman Marko Priednieks, and Stollings teamed up to win the 400 yard freestyle relay, winning by three seconds and finishing in 3:21.07.

Women

Findlay had two teams in the 400 yard medley relay, but it was the squad of senior Sarah Miles, junior Kristina Coleman, freshman Zoey Fedele, and freshman Cecilia Langle that won, touching the wall in 4:03.67.

Freshman Jessica Schelin won the grueling 1000 yard freestyle with an 11:38.61 while Kristina Coleman won the quick 50 yard freestyle, touching the wall in 25.33. Coleman also won the 100 yard breaststroke with a 1:09.25.

Langle swam in the 100 yard freestyle and finished in 55.65 to take first.

Sophomore Leah Vander Roest won the 1 meter diving competition with a score of 184.10.

Wrapping up the day, Langle, Schelin, senior Ashton Klopp, and Miles won the 400 yard freestyle with a 3:46.80.

Findlay will be back in the pool on Jan. 29 when they will take on Wayne State University.
