Oilers Sweep Malone in Canton

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams competed against Malone University on Feb. 19 in Canton, Ohio. The women claimed a 150-77 victory while the men won 146-72.

On the men's side, sophomore Tim Stollings had a huge meet as he broke two school records. He won the 50-yard freestyle with a school and Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) record-breaking time of 19.73 and then set a new school and conference record in the 100-yard butterfly at 46.45. Both times were good enough to reach the NCAA automatic qualifying mark.

Stollings also teamed with freshman Daniel Garcia, freshman Adam Hornak, and junior Paul Pavala to win the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.89 while Pavala, freshman Luca Chiandussi, freshman Aidan Shue, and Kristofers Bregis won the 400-yard medley relay at 3:24.89. Stollings leg in the 400-yard freestyle of 44.53 was good enough to achieve a NCAA "B" standard.

Garcia picked up a pair of wins in individual competition as well after winning the 400-yard IM with a NCAA "B" standard time of 3:58.56 and finishing first in the 500-yard freestyle at 4:55.58.

Hornak scored a win in the 200-yard freestyle at 1:41.84, Pavala won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 50.06, Bregis was victorious in the 100-yard freestyle at 47.23, and Chiandussi claimed gold in the 100-yard breaststroke at 55.70.

In diving, senior Dalton Shevlin won the 1-meter with 289 points and picked up a victory in the 3-meter with 308.20 points.

On the women's side, junior Chris McFarland claimed a victory in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:00.74 and was a part of two relay teams that captured gold. She teamed with junior Kristina Coleman, freshman Zoey Fedele, and freshman Cecilia Langle to win the 400-yard medley at 3:56.96 and paired with senior Ashton Klopp, freshman Jessica Schelin, and senior Murphy Vance to win the 400-yard free at 3:44.63.

Fedele picked up a pair of individual victories by winning the 200-yard freestyle at 1:58.08 and 100-yard butterfly at 58.18 while Coleman won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.84, Schelin claimed gold in the 400-yard IM at 4:50.18, and senior Sarah Miles was first in the 500-yard freestyle at 5:25.58.

Sophomore Leah Vander Roest also scored a couple of victories for Findlay, winning the 1-meter dive with 195.20 points and the 3-meter dive with 157.75 points.

The Oilers will battle the Pioneers again tomorrow, but this time at home. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1pm.
