Multiple Records Set on Day 2 at G-MAC/MEC Championship

Canton, Ohio -  The University of Findlay swimming and diving teams competed on the second day of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) and Mountain East Conference (MEC) Championship in Canton, Ohio at the C.T. Branin Natatorium on Wednesday, March 31. Through two days, Findlay's men sit atop the standings with 595.5 points while the women are in second with 510.5 points, 122.5 points behind Hillsdale College who is in first.

Men

Freshman Daniel Garcia has continued to impress in the pool as he set a new school, conference, and meet record in the 200 yard IM on Thursday, earning the top spot with a time of 1:48.51. In that event, the Oilers took the top fives spots as, after Garcia were freshman Adam Hornak (1:51.00), freshman Marko Priednieks (1:54.14), junior Jared Toaz (1:55.49), and senior Nathan Bourne (1:55.50).

Still fresh off an incredible week at the NCAA Division II National Championship meet, sophomore Tim Stollings was back in the pool as an individual and won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 19.82. His prelim time from the morning of 19.69 established new school, conference, and meet records and was almost a second-and-a-half faster than freshman teammate Luca Chiandussi whose finals time was 21.18.

Stollings helped bring home another title, his third of the meet, in the 400 yard medley relay where he, Paul Pavala, Luca Chiandussi, and freshman Aidan Shue finished in a time of 3:18.04.

Freshman Dags Bregis took his first individual conference title in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 4:39.12 to take the top spot more than five seconds ahead of the second-place finisher and teammate Paul Pavala who earned second with a 4:44.08.

In the morning, Pavala, Chiandussi, Stollings, and Shue all swam in a 200 medley relay time trial. In that time trial, the group broke a school record by two-tenths of a second, finishing the time trial in a time of 1:28.65.

Women

Sophomore Leah Vander Roest was crowned G-MAC/MEC Champion in the 3-meter dive on Wednesday as she tallied a score of 286.50 in the event to win the women's lone championship of the day.

In the 500 yard freestyle, senior Sarah Miles earned a podium spot with a third place finish, touching the wall in 5:06.24 to earn her team 27 points. Miles later teamed with senior Brette Klopp, freshman Maria Argyropoulou, and freshman Zoey Fedele in the 400 yard medley relay and won the G-MAC/MEC title with a time of 3:51.89.

Senior Ashton Klopp finished in a tie for second in the 200 yard IM with a 2:10.24.
