Oilers Sweep Ashland to Open Season

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams kicked off their season on Oct. 15 with a home dual meet against Ashland University. Both teams claimed victories as the women won 168.5 to 69-.5 while the men won 140 to 90.

On the women's side, sophomore Cecilia Langle had a hand in three victories for the Oilers. She teamed with senior Kristina Coleman, freshman Macy May, and freshman Edith Somrah to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.25 and won the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.07) and 500-yard freestyle (5:21.99).

In diving, freshman Addi Fleischman had a great start to her career by winning both the 1-meter (260.71) and 3-meter (249.38). Her score in the 1-meter was good enough for a NCAA "A" standard, which qualifies her for the NCAA Division II National Championship.

Freshman Sydney Jones had a pair of wins for the Oilers as she won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.71 and teamed with freshman Sasha Melnyk, Coleman, and May to claim the top spot in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:47.67.

Freshman Jenna Daria won the 1650-yard freestyle (18:53.08), freshman Edith Somrah was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly (2:18.07), freshman Sydney Wissler won the 100-yard freestyle (54.25), freshman Mille Berg claimed the title in the 200-yard backstroke (2:08.92), junior Rachel Poling won the 200-yard breaststroke (2:30.87).

On the men's side, freshman Camilo Montano Marrugo scored three first place finishes to lead the way. He teamed with junior Tim Stollings, sophomore Daniel Garcia, and freshman Angel Maragaritov to win the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:31.59 and also won the 50-yard freestyle (1:57.73) and 100-yard freestyle (46.18).

Margartiov also won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:46.12 while Garcia won the 200-yard breaststroke at 2:03.55.

Sophomore Adam Hornak claimed a pair of victories in the 200-yard IM (1:57.73) and 200-yard butterfly (1:56.24) while senior Paul Pavala won the 200-yard backstroke (1:55.93).

The Oilers 200-yard freestyle relay team of freshman Rafael Machado Lozano, freshman Joe Kroeger, sophomore Luca Chiandussi, and senior Alex Bouhlel also earned a first place finish after touching the wall in 1:29.52.

The Oilers will be back in the pool again on Oct. 23 when they travel to University Center, Mich. to face Saginaw Valley State University in a dual meet.
