Findlay Women Sweep Cleveland State and Oberlin | Men Split

Results

Cleveland, OH – The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams were in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday, Nov. 5 for a tri-meet with Division I Cleveland State and Division III Oberlin College. Findlay's women defeated Cleveland State 138-100 and also took down Oberlin 188-50. The Oilers men split their day, defeating Oberlin 159-42 but falling to the Vikings 136-95.

Women

Findlay got its day started on a good note, earning first and second place in the 200-yard medley relay. The Oilers team of freshman Sasha Melnyk, senior Kristina Coleman, freshman Sydney Jones, and freshman Macy May took top spot with a time of 1:45.46. May's final 50 of 23.79 seconds was the fastest of all competitors in the race. Findlay's team of freshman Mille Berg, junior Rachel Poling, freshman Sydney Jones, and sophomore Gracie Glaser was the runner-up with a 1:48.88.

May's day was just beginning as she picked up two more wins in the sprint events. The Oilers' freshman won the 50 free with a 24.57 and later won the 100 free with a 53.13. Joining May in the 50 free were Sydney Jones and Sasha Melnyk who took second and third, respectively, with times of 24.64 and 24.70.

Berg later swam in the 100 backstroke, winning the event with a 57.71. Melnyk was the runner-up with a 58.58.

Kristina Coleman was the winner on the 100 breaststroke, taking top spot with a 1:06.66 while teammate Rachel Poling was the runner-up with a 1:08.18.

In the 100 butterfly, Findlay took the top three spots freshman Edith Somrah (58.80), Sydney Jones (1:00.15), and sophomore Jessie Schelin (1:01.05) all out touched competitors from either of the two other schools.

In the 200 free, sophomore Cecilia Langle put together four sub-30 second laps to touch the wall in a time of 1:56.87, taking first place. Freshman Abbie Kmet took third with a 2:01.27. Langle also took third in the 100 free (55.04) and third in the 800 free (8:10.75)

Freshman Jenna Daria swam an 18:57.25 in the 1650-yard freestyle and finished runner-up to a swimmer from Cleveland State, but earning the win over Oberlin College by almost a full minute.

Findlay picked up a win in the 1-meter diving competition as freshman Addi Fleischman won the event with a score of 262.50.

Men

The Oilers' men kicked off the afternoon with a great performance in the 200-medley relay. Junior Tim Stollings, sophomore Daniel Garcia, freshman Camilo Marrugo Montano, and sophomore Dags Bregis teamed up to win the event with a 1:29.07, the second-fastest time in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) history. Marrugo Montano later won the 50 free with a 20.88 and the 100 free with a 45.94. Garcia won the 400 IM with a 3:57.67, the fourth-best time in conference history and an NCAA 'B' standard. Garcia continued his good day with a win in the 100 breaststroke with a 55.33, the third fastest time in the history of the conference and another NCAA 'B' standard.

Findlay got a win from freshman Rafael Lozano Machado in the 1650 freestyle, taking first with a time of 16:16.69, the fourth-best time in G-MAC history. Machado also took second to Cleveland State in the 500-yard freestyle, but defeated Oberlin in the event. His time was 4:43.60.

Sophomore Adam Hornak was the first to touch the wall in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.70), setting the sixth-best time in conference history and missing the 'B' standard by just four-tenths of a second.

Stollings was the runner-up in the 100 butterfly, finishing second to Cleveland State, but earning first against Oberlin. He had a time of 49.58.

The Oilers are back in the pool tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 6 in a dual against the University of Indianapolis.
