Oilers Conclude Calvin Winter Invite

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up the Calvin Winter Invite on Dec. 4 in Grand Rapids, Mich. The Oilers continued their success at the meet by setting two school records to go along with seven more NCAA qualifying standards on the final day of competition.

On the men's side, they had another great day in the relay competitions. Their 400-yard freestyle relay team of junior Tim Stollings, sophomore Dags Bregis, freshman Camilo Montano Marrugo, and freshman Angel Margaritov set a new school record and reached provisional qualifying status with a first place finishing time of 2:56.79. Their 200-yard medley relay team consisting of Stollings, sophomore Daniel Garcia, Montano Marrugo, and Margaritov also won with a school record-breaking and provisional time of 1:27.26.

Stollings also added a first place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a NCAA "A" cut time of 46.74 while Garcia was second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a "B" cut time of 2:00.01.

Bregis recorded a "B" cut in the 100-yard freestyle with his second place finishing time of 44.63 while Montano Marrugo took third in the same event with a "B" cut time of 44.77.

Sophomore Marko Priednieks captured the bronze in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:01.06 and senior Paul Pavala reached a "B" cut in the 200-yard backstroke with a fourth place finishing time of 1:48.64.

On the women's side, sophomore Cecilia Langle scored a first place finish in the 500-yard freestyle with a "B" cut time of 5:04.67 while the Oilers 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Sasha Melnyk, senior Kristina Coleman, freshman Macy May, and freshman Sydney Jones finished third at 1:44.54.

Freshman Mille Berg added a fourth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:03.34.

The Oilers will be back in action again on Jan. 15 when they host Grand Valley State University at 1pm.
