Oilers Win at Ashland

Results

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams were finally back in the pool on Jan. 29 in Ashland, Ohio. The women defeated Ashland University 183-110 and also scored a 240-22 victory over Bluffton University. The men meanwhile came away with a 180-88 victory against Ashland.

On the women's side, freshmen Macy May and Sasha Melnyk each had a hand in four wins to lead the way. May won the 50-yard freestyle (24.81) and 100-yard butterfly (59.79) while Melnyk claimed gold in the 100-yard backstroke (59.71) and 100-yard freestyle (55.94). They also teamed with senior Kristina Coleman and sophomore Cecilia Langle to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:44.54) and paired with Coleman and freshman Sarah Starkey to claim first in the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:42.69).

Freshman Aby Hernandez won the 1000-yard freestyle (11:09.37) and 500-yard freestyle (5:29.96) while freshman Addi Fleischman claimed first in the 3-meter (202.35) and 1-meter (224.14) dives.

Langle added an individual title in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.76) while junior Rachel Poling took first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.22).

On the men's side, sophomore Dags Bregis teamed with sophomore Aidan Shue, senior Jared Toaz, and sophomore Luca Chiandussi to win the 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.19) and also added a first place finish in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.32) while junior Tim Stollings teamed with sophomore Marko Priednieks, freshman Jaden Humphrey, and freshman Rafael Lozano to win the 200-yard medley relay (1:36.69) and added a gold in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.73).

Shue took first in the 100-yard freestyle (48.34), Humphrey was first in the 100-yard backstroke (52.69), freshman Joe Kroeger took the top spot in the 50-yard freestyle (22.45), and Lozano was first in the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.54).

Sophomore Adam Hornak scored wins in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.12) and 200-yard IM (1:56.64) while freshman Angel Margaritov won the 100-yard breaststroke (59.50) and 100-yard butterfly (51.59).

The Oilers will be back in action again on Feb. 16-19 at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship in Canton, Ohio.
