University of Findlay swimmers headed to national championship

Oilers Sending 6 Athletes to National Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's swimming and diving teams will be sending six athletes to the NCAA Division II National Championship, which will be held on March 9-12 in Greensboro, N.C.

On the men's side, the Oilers will be led by junior Tim Stollings who qualified in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard backstroke. Stollings won a national championship for the Oilers last season in the 100-yard butterfly and is seeded second in the event this year with a time of 46.52. He is seeded eighth in the 100-yard backstroke at 47.22 and was also invited to the event in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle races. Stollings finished as the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly last year.

Sophomore Daniel Garcia qualified in three events for Findlay and will enter the 100-yard breaststroke with the eighth-best time in the nation at 53.38. He also qualified in the 200-yard breaststroke where he is seeded 11th with a time of 1:58.03 and the 400-yard IM where he had the 19th-best time in the country at 3:54.92. Garcia was also invited to compete in the 200-yard IM as well.

Freshman Camillo Marrugo qualified for the national championship in the 100-yard butterfly where he had the eighth-best time in the nation this year at 47.21. He was also invited to the national championship in the 50 and 100-yard freestyle events.

Sophomore Dags Bregis and freshman Angel Margartiov will also be headed to the championship to compete in the relay events.

On the women's side, freshman Addi Fleischman will compete in the preliminary diving competition with a shot to qualify for the championship event.
