Oilers in 8th After 1st Day of National Championship

The University of Findlay men's swimming and diving team completed day one of the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championship on March 9 in Greensboro, N.C. The men had a great day and are currently in sixth place at the event with a score of 71 points.

The Oilers 200-yard medley relay team of junior Tim Stollings, sophomore Daniel Garcia, freshman Camilo Marrugo, and sophomore Dags Bregis led the way with a fourth place finish with a school record-breaking time of 1:25.66. The Oilers 200-yard freestyle relay team of Marrugo, Stollings, Bregis, and freshman Angel Margaritov also added a fifth place finish in the their event with a school record-breaking time of 1:18.65. All members of the relay team earned all-American honors for their efforts.

Stollings secured an all-American award individually in the 50-yard freestyle after setting a new school record after touching the wall in 19.6450 free with a time of 19.64. Marrugo also competed in the event and finished 29th at 20.24.

Garcia also set a new school record with an 18th place finish in the 200-yard IM at 1:47.92.

The event will continue tomorrow.
