Oilers in 5th After Two Days at NCAA Championship

Thursday Results

Greensboro, NC - On Thursday, March 10, the University of Findlay men's swimming and diving team continued a strong performance at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championship being held at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. Through two days of competition, Findlay, which entered the event ranked 15th in the country, is in fifth place in the team standings.

Only a junior, Findlay's Tim Stollings is already the most decorated swimmer in program history. On Thursday, Stollings added to what has been an incredible career in the water by picking up yet another all-American award in the 100 yard butterfly, the third of his career in that event alone. The reigning national champion in the event, Stollings entered the finals after qualifying with the third-fastest time in the morning prelims. In the finals, the Oilers standout took runner-up by swimming a time of 46.34, just four hundreths of a second shy of national champion Dominik Karacic of Drury.

The Oilers were not done in the 100 fly, however, as freshman Camilo Marrugo, who is quickly piling up awards himself, also earned all-American status in the race. Marrugo was the second-fastest in the morning prelims and in the evening, finished fourth with a time of 46.56, almost seven-tenths faster than his previous personal best which he set at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship three weeks ago.

Findlay was not done quite yet. In the final race of the evening, the 400 medley relay, the Oilers team of Stollings, sophomore Daniel Garcia, Marrugo, and freshman Angel Margaritov set a new program record by completing the race in a time of 3:11.26 to earn all-American in the event.

Stollings is back in the pool tomorrow in the 100 backstroke where he is seeded eighth while Daniel Garcia will look to score, as well, as he will swim in the 100 breaststroke where he is also seeded eighth.
