Tim Stollings Earns Great Midwest Male Scholar-Athlete

Indianapolis, Ind.- On Wednesday, July 13, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) announced its selections for the 2021-22 Scholar-Athletes of the Year. The athlete selected as the winner of the 2021-22 Male Scholar Athlete of the Year is Findlay's standout swimmer, Tim Stollings.

Stollings was selected as the scholar-athlete of the year after dominating performances in both the pool and in the classroom. A native of Prichard, W. Va., Stollings carries a 3.95 GPA while double majoring in marketing and sport and event management. Most recently, Stollings was named an academic all-American by the CSCAA which is awarded to swimmers who carry over a 3.5 GPA and are invited to compete at their respective national championship.

In the pool, Stollings was named both the G-MAC Swimmer of the Year and G-MAC Swimmer of the Meet after setting four conference records this season. He won Great Midwest titles in seven different events which led to the team's fifth consecutive G-MAC Championship title. Stollings picked up six all-American honors at the NCAA Division II National Championship on his way to leading the team to a ninth place finish at the event.

"Tim Stollings emboldens the competitive champion spirit and he has become the heartbeat of our team. He is a role model for our team and ambassador of Oiler athletics in his efforts to better himself and the team," said Head Swimming and Diving Coach, Andrew Makepeace. "The example Tim demonstrates inside the classroom, pool, weight room, and social settings are what makes him a special leader and distinguishes him from peers. Tim challenges his teammates to be better. His positive engagement has filtered down on the team creating a more cohesive unit."

The Great Midwest Scholar-Athlete of the Year is traditionally presented on an annual basis to a nominee deemed to have completed the most outstanding record in athletics, scholarship and leadership. The award is voted on by the Faculty Athletic Representatives at each of the Great Midwest institutions. Stollings is the second University of Findlay athlete to earn the honors after Andrew Alten won in 2017-18.

Cedarville's Rachel Sweeney earned the distinction as the 2021-22 G-MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
