Oilers Pick Up Five All-American Awards at National Championship

Indianapolis, Ind. - The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams participated on the second day of the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving National Championship on Wednesday, March 8, being held at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Findlay's men are currently in ninth place with 65 points scored while the women are in 27th.

In the third event of the night, junior Daniel Garcia, who earned the eighth and final spot in the championship final, took sixth place with a 1:46.74. That time gives him first-team all-American status in the 200 IM.

Findlay's most decorated swimmer of all-time, senior Tim Stollings, took part in the 50 freestyle on Wednesday and qualified for the consolation finals. He won that heat with a 19.70, giving him second-team all-American honors. Sophomore Camilo Marrugo was also in that consolation final, earning second-team all-American with a time of 19.86.

Stollings, Garcia, Marrugo, and junior Dags Bregis teammed up in the 200 medley relay and earned a fifth place finish with a time of 1:25.96. That time earned the group first team all-American.

Freshman Emily Mears-Bentley is getting her first taste of the national championship meet and, after qualifying for the consolation finals, ended up taking 16th place with a time of 23.42. That time is good for second-team all-American status.
