Garcia Named G-MAC Male Athlete of the Year

G-MAC Release

Indianapolis, Ind. - Each year the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) selects one male and one female athlete in the conference who performed at the highest level, earning the distinction as G-MAC Athlete of the Year. Findlay swimmer Daniel Garcia has been selected as the league's Male Athlete of the Year after one of the most prolific individual seasons in conference history.

Garcia's year was highlighted at the NCAA Division II National Championship where he cemented himself as one of the most dominant athletes in the country. He brough home all-American status in seven events including the 200 yard breaststroke where he was the Division II National Champion. His effort at the event helped lead the Oilers to a seventh place finish in the country, the program's highest-ever ranking to end a season.

The junior also dominated at the G-MAC Championship where he helped the Oilers men to a sixth-consecutive conference title. Garcia was a conference champion in seven different events on his way to earning G-MAC Men's Swimmer of the Year.

During the course of the year, Garcia was named G-MAC Athlete of the Week three times and set seven different program records.

This is Findlay's third time the Oilers have brough home a conference Athlete of the Year as Garcia joins golfer Kristina Kniesly (W | 2022) and track and field athlete Eldred Henry (M | 2019) as the top athlete in the conference.
