Records Broken on Day 2 of Championship
The University of Findlay men and women's outdoor track and field teams completed day two of the 2018 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship on May 4 in Hillsdale, Mich.
On the men's side, Trey Everett captured a pair of championships to lead the way. He won the decathlon with a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of 6,980 points, which set a school record, and won the high jump with a leap of 2.00 meters.
Martin Etsey also claimed gold on Friday, winning the long jump with a G-MAC record leap of 7.11 meters.
Chris Demler took runner-up honors in the high jump at 1.95 meters while Dequan Lovell finished third in the hammer throw with a provisional heave of 54.68 meters.
Babafemi Ayeni placed fifth in the long jump as well with a mark of 6.78 meters.
The Oilers also had a number of individuals competing in the preliminary round of their events. George Effah won the preliminary 400-meter race with a G-MAC record time of 48.17 and took fourth in the opening round of the 200-meter at 22.10. He will compete in the finals of both events tomorrow.
Zach Jellison, Daniel Agbola and Seth Saylor also qualified for the finals tomorrow. Jellison was the runner-up in the prelims of the 100-meter at 10.86, Agbola finished fifth in the prelims of the 800-meter with a time of 1:57.81 and Saylor took eighth in the 400-meter hurdles at 58.83.
The Oilers 4x100-meter relay team of Jellison, Etsey, Gavin Stepansky and Kurt Grieger will compete in the finals tomorrow as well after taking fifth in the first round with a time of 42.85.
On the women's side, Jenna Shipman finished third in the long jump with a mark of 5.26 meters while Hannah Hahler took the bronze in the hammer throw at 48.49 meters. Alex DeVincentis finished fourth in the event as well at 47.70 meters while Holly Averesch took eighth at 44.37 meters.
In the preliminary rounds, Milani Glass finished first in the 100-meter hurdles with a NCAA Division II provisional time of 13.98, which was good enough for a new G-MAC record. She also took second in the prelims of the 100-meter with a provisional time of 11.93. She will compete in the finals of both events tomorrow.
Glass also teamed with Semoy Hemmings, Shipman and Aubreah Manns to reach the finals in the 4x100-meter relay after posting a third place finish in the first round at 49.16.
Hemmings qualified for the finals in the 400-meter after placing second at 57.10 and will compete on the final day in the 200-meter as well after taking fifth with a time of 25.12.
Shipman reached the finals in the 400-meter and 200-meter too. She finished fifth in the 400 (58.23) and seventh in the 200 (25.68).
Madison Borer placed eighth in the prelims of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.43 to qualify for the finals as well.
