Combs Wins Hammer at G-MAC Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's outdoor track and field teams wrapped up the second day of competition at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship on May 3 in Hillsdale, Mich.

The men were led by Austin Combs who took home a conference championship in the hammer throw. Combs won the event with a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying heave of 212'09.

Xavier Marable took the top spot in the preliminary round of the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.81 and will head into the finals tomorrow as the favorite to win the event. His time was good enough to establish a new league record.

The Oilers 4x100-meter relay team of Zack Jellison, Ethan Pensante, Gavin Stepansky, and Lane Kolb qualified for the finals after finishing fourth in the prelims with a time of 42.59. Pensante also took fourth in the prelims of the 200-meter dash at 21.98.

Findlay had two individuals qualify for the finals in the 110-meter hurdles as Josh Steinbrunner finished fifth with a time of 14.89 and Seth Saylor was sixth at 15.26. Steinbrunner also took sixth in the prelims of the 400-meter hurdles after crossing the finish line in 55.58.

In the long jump finals, Justin Dreyling finished sixth with a leap of 21'10.75.

On the women's side, Meadow Cromer finished as the runner-up in the pole vault at 11'09.75 while Semoy Hemmings took home the top spot in the preliminary round of the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.91.

Hemmings teamed with Aubreah Manns, Mikaely Penn, and Jenna Shipman to qualify for the finals in the 4x100-meter relay by taking sixth with a time of 49.66 while Shipman also will head to the finals in the 400-meter dash after taking sixth in the prelims at 58.86.

The third and final day of competition will take place tomorrow.
