Several Oilers Reach Provisional Mark at Findlay Open
Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's and women's track competed in the Findlay Open on Saturday, January 11. The Oilers had several qualifiers for the provisional mark in both the men's and the women's in many events.
Women
Three Oiler pole vaulters reached the Division II provisional mark: freshman Morgan England, sophomore Meadow Cromer, and freshman Lindsay Kluesner. They all reached a mark of 3.58m and tied for first place.
Senior Hannah Hahler launched a throw of 14.15m in the shot put, which was far enough to reach the Division II provisional, and placed her second in the event. Freshman Paige Emnett placed seventh with a long throw of 12.56m.
Freshman Adriana Jutte snatched first place in the 600 meter run, bolting through the finish line at 1:44.92.
Junior Brooke Mangas took second place in the high jump, reaching the heights of 1.63m.
Freshman Morgan Gaskins coasted through the finish line with a time of 10:51.74 in the 3000 meter run, which placed her second overall.
With a jump of 5.34m, freshman Simone Green placed second in the long jump. Freshman Carlee Siefker got fifth with a jump of 5.12m.
In the weight throw, senior Hannah Hahler got sixth place with a long throw of 15.55m.
In the 4x400 meter relay, the Oilers team of freshman Bethany Smith, Adriana Jutte, freshman Rylee Sybert, and senior Aubreah Manns clocked in at 4:14.77, placing them third in the event.
Sophomore Hayley Robinett ran a time of 5:44.12 in the mile, which was fast enough to give her a fourth place finish. Freshman Meghan Donoher was not far behind, as she clocked in at 5:54.24, placing her sixth, and sophomore London Moening finished seventh with a time of 6:14.97.
In the 300 meter dash, Findlay took places fifth through eighth in the following order: Bethany Smith, (42.96), Aubreah Manns, (43.53), Rylee Sybert, (44.10), and sophomore Mikaely Pean, (44.43).
Men
Sophomore Xavier Marable broke the school record in the 300 meter run, as he zoomed through the finish line with a time of 33.92. The previous school record was held by Curtis Smithey, who ran a 34.09 in 2010. Freshman Josh Verhoff, (35.66), and sophomore Ethan Pensante, (36.00), place second and third, respectively.
In the high jump, junior Emanuel Durden reached the heights of 2.04m, which is high enough to earn him a Division II provisional spot, and also placed first in the event overall. Freshman Cameron Stine placed second with a jump of 1.98m.
Junior Sterling Mungro, (16.56m - seventh place) reached the Division II provisional mark in the shot put. Mungro also reached the Division II provisional mark in the weight throw, as he threw for a 19.87m throw, placing him sixth overall in the event.
In the long jump, sophomore Justin Dreyling placed first overall with a jump of 6.78m.
Sophomore Nathan Bedel and sophomore Ryan Stevens tied for second place in the pole vault, both vaulting at 4.62m.
Junior Seth Saylor took second place in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:34.26.
In the 60 Meter Hurdles, Sophomore Josh Steinbrunner placed fourth with a time of 8.49. Freshman Keandre Marlow earned eighth place in the event, clocking in at 8.68.
Senior Gavin Stepansky clocked in with a time of 2:06.69 in the 800 meter run, placing him fifth in the event.
The men's 4x400 meter relay team of sophomore Ethan Pensante, freshman Chris Cooper, freshman Nick Rice, and Gavin Stepansky finished in fourth place, clocking in at 3:37.41.
In the 60 meter dash, the Oilers had four top eight finishers, including: Xavier Marable, (6.91 - third place), freshman Michael Nichols, (7.05 - fourth place), freshman Josh Verhoff, (7.14 - sixth place), and freshman Chris Cooper, (7.24 - eighth place).
The Oilers next meet will take place on Friday, January 17 as they will compete in the Youngstown State Collegiate Invite.
