Oilers Complete Al Owens Classic

The University of Findlay men and women's outdoor track and field team wrapped up the Al Owens Classic on April 17 in Allendale, Mich.

On the women's side, sophomore Bethany Smith won the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.74 while senior Jenna Shipman took second in the event at 57.85. Smith also teamed with Shipman, junior Hayley Robinett, and senior Aubreah Manns to take runner-up honors in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:53.43 while Shipman teamed with junior Michaela Butler, sophomore Rylee Sybert, and freshman Jordan Taylor to finish second in the 4x100-meter relay at 47.88. Butler also added a third place finish in the 200-meter at 25.36.

Sophomore Simone Green won the long jump with a leap of 5.67 meters while junior Brooke Mangas won the high jump at 1.64 meters.

Freshman Jessica Break finished second in Friday's pole vault competition at 3.45 meters while junior Meadow Cromer took third at 3.30 meters.

In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Kylie Ray was second with a time of 1:06.08 while sophomore Kenedi Hayden was third at 1:07.16.

In Saturday's pole vault competition, senior Savannah Amato, junior Lindsey Kluesener, and sophomore Morgan England all tied for third place with NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks of 4.01 meters.

Freshman Grace Hoffman took home the bronze in the discus at 36.79 meters, sophomore Paige Emnett was third in the shot put invitational with a mark of 13.77 meters, and sophomore Meghan Donoher was third in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:05.78.

On the men's side, senior Martin Etsey won the triple jump with a NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark of 14.68 meters and he also took second in the long jump at 6.64 meters.

Junior Xavier Marable won the 400-meter dash with a provisional qualifying time of 47.17 while senior Gabe Makin and freshman Alex Mutchler were first and second, respectively in the pole vault. Both athletes reached a height of 4.71 meters in the event.

Junior Sterling Mungro finished second in the hammer throw invitational with a provisional qualifying heave of 61.61 meters while freshman Orry Willems was sixth in the same event with a provisional toss of 56.14 meters. Mungro also took third in the shot put invitational, reaching the provisional at 17.27 meters.

Freshman Gabriel Foster earned a runner-up finish in the 800-meter run after crossing the finish line in 1:52.52, junior Ethan Pensante was second in the 200-meter dash at 21.82, junior Max Prenger was second in the shot put at 15.40 meters, and sophomore Cameron Stine took home the silver in the high jump at 1.93 meters. Pensante also teamed with sophomore Michael Nichols, Marable, and freshman Isaac Webb to finish as the runner-up in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 41.44.

Freshman Hunter Tresnan-Reighard placed second in the discus with a provisional heave of 50.18 meters while seniors Austin Combs and Javian Martin finished third and fifth, respectively, in the discus invitational with NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks. Combs finished at 54.31 meters while Martin reached 51.31 meters.

The Oilers will be back in action again on April 23-24 at the Ashland Alumni Open in Ashland, Ohio.
