Oilers Dominate 1st Day of G-MAC Championship

The University of Findlay men and women's outdoor track and field teams completed the first day of competition at the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship on May 5 in Owensboro, Ky. The men are in first place with 39 points while the women are also in the lead with 51 points.

On the women's side, the Oilers won three events as sophomore Paige Emnett, senior Savannah Amato, and junior Gabrielle Lawrence each captured individual championships.

Emnett won a title in the hammer throw with a NCAA Division II provisional toss of 52.48 meters while Amato captured the gold in the pole vault with a NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark of 4.23 meters, which also set new school and G-MAC records. Lawrence meanwhile won the 10,000-meter run with a provisional qualifying and school record-breaking time of 36:03.97.

Sophomore Morgan England finished as the runner-up in the pole vault with a NCAA Division II automatic qualifying mark of 4.13 meters while sophomore Lindsey Kluesener finished third with a provisional qualifying mark of 3.78 meters.

On the men's side, senior Austin Combs recorded a conference title in the hammer throw with a NCAA Division II automatic qualifying and G-MAC record-breaking throw of 70.09 meters.

Junior Sterling Mungro finished as the runner-up in the hammer throw with a mark of 67.23 meters while Orry Willems (58.14) and Max Prenger (55.97) took third and sixth, respectively, in the event. All three throws met the provisional.

Freshman Noah Fisher also secured a first place finish for the Oilers as he won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 30:57.78.
