Oilers Compete at Jesse Owens Classic | Bring Home 11 Top 10 Finishes

Columbus, OH-The University of Findlay Men's and Women's track and field teams traveled to Columbus to compete at the Jesse Owens Classic at The Ohio State University on Friday Apr 22. 

Men's 

Starting it off for the men was junior Nick DeHaven, who took 6th in the men's 1500 finishing with a time of 3:56.58. Freshmen Noah Fisher followed suit with a 3rd place finish in the men's 5000, finishing with a time of 14:29.97 which also meets the NCAA provisional standard. In the hammer throw, senior Austin Combs and sophomore Max Prenger placed in the top 10. Combs won the event and was .53 meters away from meeting the automatic qaulifying mark and Prenger brought home 9th . The men's team rounded the day off with a strong performance in the long jump. Three Oilers: sophomore Eliot Cummings, freshmen Shakur Payton, and freshmen Chris Campbell placed in the top 10, bringing home 5th 6th and 7th respectively. 

Women's 

The Women started out strong with a 5th place finish in the 400-meter hurdle by freshmen Kylie Ray, who finished with a time of 1:01.14 meeting the NCAA provisional standard. Freshmen Gabrielle Lawrence brought home 5th in the 5000 with a finishing time of 17:20.44. The women finished the day with the hammer throw, sophomore Paige Emnett brought home 8th place and freshmen Trista Fintel brought home 10th. 

The Oilers will be back for day two of the event on Apr 23, the first event is scheduled to start at 10 AM.
