Oilers Conclude Regular Season at Ashland Alumni Open

Ashland, Ohio- The University of Findlay track and field team concluded their regular season today, Apr. 30 at the Ashland University Alumni Open. The meet featured the top talent in the midwest as it played host to Division I, Division II, and Division III talent.  

 

Women 

On the field, Junior Rylee Sybert came in second in the women's javelin throw with a mark of 35.71m (117'2.00") coming on her first attempt. Junior Simone Green came in first in the long jump with her best mark of 5.81m (19'0.75") coming on her second attempt.  

The Oilers once again led the field in the pole vault. Senior Savannah Amato took the top spot again today by clearing 4.15m (13'7.25"). This marks the fifth event in a row that Amato has taken the top spot. Senior Meadow Cromer took third, clearing a height of 3.98m (13'0.75"). Both women met provisional marks to edge out competition from Youngstown State, Kent State, and Ashland to take the top honors. 

The Oilers dominated the relays finishing first in both the 400m and 1600m. In the 400, the team of Nicole Fishpaw, Taylor Ivory, Jordan Taylor, and Michaela Butler edged off Kent State to take the top spot with a time of 46.65 seconds which meets the provisional mark. The women took first in the 1600m relay with a time of 3:53.51. The team of Bethany Smith, Taylor Ivory, Hayley Robinett, and Kylie Ray took first by nearly five seconds over Wanye State. 

Kate Ellis came in seventh in the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.65.  

 

Men 

Friday featured the throwers as they were the only ones to compete on the day. In the hammer throw, freshman Colin Warner took ninth with a throw of 50.31m (165'0.00"). Warner also took eighth in the javelin throw with a mark of 47.55m (156'0.00"). Sophomore Isaac Webb finished tenth in the same event with a throw of 44.45m (145'10.00").  

Continuing on the field, sophomore Elliot Cummings came in second in the long jump with a distance of 7.05m (23'1.75") on his fifth attempt. Sophomore Alex Mutchler came in fifth in the pole vault clearing a height of 4.85m (15'11.00"), meeting the provisional mark. Juniors Keandre Marlow and Jacob Michael both tied for ninth in the pole vault by clearing a height of 4.55m (14'11.00"). In the high jump, junior Cameron Stine came in third with a height of 1.95m (6'4.75"). Freshman Zeke Halter broke into the top ten in the high jump with a height of 1.80m (5'10.75") putting him in tenth place. 

Findlay came in third in both the 400m relay and the 1600m relay. In the 400, the team of Ethan Pensante, Josh Verhoff, Dylan Reason, and Hassan Sesay came in with a time of 41.63 seconds. They fell to both Ashland and Kent State by less than two seconds. In the 16000, the Oilers finished with a time of 3:20.89. The team consisted of Lane Kolb, Drew Lemaster, Gabriel Foster, Dylan Reason, and Isaac Webb.  

On the track, Hassan Sessay finished tenth in the 400m dash with a time of 50.59 seconds. Sophomore Joe Sadowski finished fifth in the 800m run with a time of 1:55.89.  

 

The Oilers will now turn their attention toward the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championships on May 4-6 in Owensboro, Ky.
