Oilers Battle Weather to Complete Day 2 of G-MAC Championship

Owensboro, Ky. - The University of Findlay track and field team completed day two of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship today, May 5. The Oilers battled the elements today at the Owensboro Health Track and Field Complex. They were delayed on two different occasions but were able to complete day two as scheduled. The men and women both remain steady as they hold the leads going into the final day of competition. 

 

Women

Leading the Oilers on the field was junior standout Simone Green. Green took the champion title in the long jump. Her mark of 5.59m (18'4.25") was just enough to edge out Tiffin's Jazilee Williams.She also took the title last year, making her a back-to-back conference champion in the long jump.  

Continuing where they left off yesterday in the heptathlon was freshman Kassandra Stine,sophomore Maddie Alexander, and junior Carlee Siefker. Stine took second, while Siefker and Alexander took fifth and ninth respectively. In the long jump, Siefker took second with a jump of 4.85m (15'11.00") while Stine cleared 4.75m (15'7.00") to finish fifth. Siefker finished first in the javelin throw with a distance of 34.68m (113'9.00"). Stine finished fourth in the 800m run with a time of 2:43.43.  

On the track, the preliminary rounds began in order to set the fields for Friday's finals. Sophomore Kylie Ray qualified for the third spot in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.30 seconds. Ray also qualified in the third spot for the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.93. Her time meets the NCAA provisional mark. Junior Bethany Smith qualified for the 400m dash in the fourth spot with a time of 57.37 seconds. Her time meets the NCAA provisional mark. Sophomore Jordan Taylor finished fourth in the 200m dash to qualify with a time of 25.06 seconds. 


Men

In the pole vault, senior Gabe Makin and sophomore Alex Mutchler took second and third respectively. They both cleared a height of 4.96m (16'3.25"). In the long jump, sophomore Eliot Cummings took second with a distance of 6.81m (22'4.25"), only 0.02m away from Lake Erie's Dakota Harvey who took first. Freshman Chris Campbell came in third with a distance of 6.76m (22'2.25") in the same event. Senior Austin Combs took second in the discus throw with a distance of 52.74m (173'0.00") while senior Max Prenger took fifth with a distance of 48.66m (159'7.00"). Freshman Shakur Payton came in second in the high jump clearing 2.05m (6'8.75"). Junior Cameron Stine cleared a distance of 2.00m (6'6.75") in the same event to take fourth. 

Resuming the decathlon for the Oilers was freshman Gabe Clement who took second overall. Clement took fifth in the 110m hurdles with a time of 18.10 seconds. He came in fourth in the discus throw with a distance of 31.66m (103'10.00"). He finished third in the pole vault, fourth in the 1500m run before finishing first in the javelin throw with a distance of 49.41m (162'1.00"). 

On the track, the preliminary rounds began in order to set the fields for Friday's finals. Sophomore Gabriel Foster qualified for the 1500m run in the second spot with a time of 4:00.21. Foster also qualified in the third spot for the 800m run with a time of 1:54.74. Junior Josh Verhoff qualified for the 100m dash in the third spot with a time of 10.74 seconds. Verhoff also qualified for the 200m dash with a time of 21.63 seconds, putting him in the fifth spot. 

 

The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow, May 6 for the conclusion of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Indoor Track Championships.
