Fintel Wins National Title | Oilers Conclude NCAA DII Championship

Virginia Beach, Va.- The University of Findlay men's and women's track and field teams concluded their trip to Virginia Beach for the 2023 Division II Track & Field Championship on Saturday, March 12. The Oilers found great success on the day as the women finished 15th in the country and the men finished 21st. 

In total, Findlay garnered eight all-American awards, six of which were first team and two of which were second team. 

Trista Fintel headlined the event for the Oilers as she took home the NCAA DII Champion title in the women's shot put with a throw of 16.04m. The sophomore from Deshler, Ohio is the first female in the history of the program to earn an indoor shot put title. Fintel is the first indoor champion for the Oilers since Tynelle Gumbs won the weight throw in 2017. Fintel is just the third female athlete to win an indoor title for Findlay.

Senior Paige Emnett, who won the Elite 90 award yesterday, took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 14.71m. Her finish earns her first team all-American honors.

Competing in the pole vault was senior Gabe Makin. Makin took eighth in the event, clearing 5.00m earning him first team all-American accolades. Also competing in the event was senior Jacob Michael who recorded three fouls at 4.85m.

Senior Xavier Marable, who has been dominant in the 400m dash, took fifth today to round out his career in collegiate indoor track and field. He recorded a time of 47.44 seconds which earned him first team all-American honors.

Jordan Foster- 2nd Team: Mile

 

Findlay now turns their attention to the outdoor track season which begins March 16 at the Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
