Oilers Compete on Day 1 at Jesse Owens Classic Hosted by Ohio State

Columbus, Ohio. - The University of Findlay track and field team is in Columbus, Ohio for the annual Jesse Owens Classic which is being hosted by Ohio State University on Friday and Saturday, April 21-22. 

Findlay's Top Finishers 

The lone event victory of the night belonged to sophomore Chris Campbell who came away victorious in the men's long jump. On his second attempt, Campbell flew 7.01m (23'00"), besting the entirety of the 30-man field. Junior Eliot Cummings, the reigning Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Men's Field Athlete of the Week, came in fifth, recording a jump of 6.91m (22'08"). 

Sophomore Kylie Ray continued her stellar season with a runner-up finish on Friday in the 400m hurdles. Ray finished with an NCAA provisional time of 59.61, a new personal best and the third-best time in the country this season. The 400m hurdle winner was Maria Diamond of Lincoln University in Missouri who recorded the fastest time in Division II this year with a 57.88. 

In women's hammer throw, sophomore Trista Fintel took fourth with a personal best in the event, a throw of 56.94m (186'09"), the tenth-best throw in DII this year. Taking 13th in the event was junior Paige Emnett with a throw of 50.87m (166'10"). 

Men's hammer throw saw a similar result as sophomore Orry Willems took fourth with a throw of 60.47, good enough to meet the NCAA provisional mark. 

Competing in the men's 1500m run was junior Jordan Foster who took eighth with a 3:53.96. Not far behind in 16th was senior teammate Nick DeHaven who clocked in a time of 3:55.52. 

The second day of competition will be held tomorrow, April 22.
