Oilers Lose in Comeback Thriller

The University of Findlay women's basketball team has lost back-to-back games for the first time this season following an 89-83 loss to Saginaw Valley State University on Thursday, Jan. 7. The overtime loss drops the Oilers record to 10-3 on the season with a 5-2 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

Findlay grabbed more rebounds, more bench points, and more points in the paint than Saginaw. Outside of those statistics, the teams were fairly even except for one key statistic: three point shooting. The Cardinals shot a blistering 56.5%, hitting 13-of-23 of their shots from deep. Saginaw also shot well from the free throw line as they made 18-of-21.

The Oilers offense was led by the play of junior Karli Bonar who scored a season-high 20 points on the strength of 8-of-15 from the floor, including 4-of-10 from behind the arc.

Senior Margaret Wuebker added 14 points to her career total, giving her 895 in her time with Findlay. She also grabbed six rebounds, all of which were defensive.

Freshman Allie Thobe turned in her best performance thus far as she scored a career-high 10 points and also grabbed a career-high with six rebounds. Eight of Thobe's points came in the third quarter as she sparked a comeback for the Oilers, who trailed by 15 points with 4:32 to play in the third quarter.

Sophomore Haley Horstman reached double-figures as she was able to score 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting while freshman Anna Hintz added eight points and six rebounds.

The Oilers will be back on the court on Satruday, Jan. 9 when they will take on Hillsdale College in a game slated to begin at 1:00pm.
