Clock Runs Out on Oilers

Tiffin, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team lost another heartbreaker as they fell 69-66 to Tiffin University on Jan. 16. Findlay now has an 11-5 record with a 6-4 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

After one quarter of play, the Oilers found themselves trailing by 13 points but battled back and eventually tied the game at 41-41 with 5:03 to play in the third quarter. With 27 seconds to play, the Oilers had a one point lead at 66-65 but a layup from Tiffin's Bre Nauman with 7 seconds to play put the Dragons ahead for good. The marks consecutive games that Findlay has lost in the final 10 seconds of play.

Findlay received a 14 point effort from sophomore Haley Horstman who canned 7-of-11 from the floor while freshman Christa Puthoff had one of her best games thus far in her young career. Puthoff scored a career-high 13 points on 4-of-5 shooting. She also nailed 5-of-5 from the charity stripe.

Senior Margaret Wuebker approached a double-double as she scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds while fellow senior Kelsey Lewis scored six points and also had seven rebounds.

Findlay will be back home on Thursday, Jan. 21 when they host #6 and undefeated Ashland University. That game will begin at 5:30pm in Croy Gymnasium.
