Findlay Rolls Past UM-Dearborn
Findlay, OH – The University of Findlay women's basketball team improved to 6-7 on the year with a non-conference win on Thursday, Dec. 29. Findlay defeated the University of Michigan-Dearborn with a score of 107-47, the first time since Nov. 16, 2009 against Wheeling Jesuit that the Oilers have scored over 100 points in a game. The 107 points are the fifth-most in a game and just nine points shy of the school record for points in a game.
The Oilers cruised out to a 28-8 lead through the first quarter and extended that lead to a commanding 52-20 at the half. In the first half of play, Findlay shot 21-of-42 and buried five threes. They also forced 20 turnovers in that first half.
In the second half the story was the same as the Oilers would roll to a 60-point victory, their largest victory since a 76-point win over Marygrove in 2007.
Leading the way for Findlay was sophomore Christa Puthoff who scored 16 points, 15 of which came in the first half. She also grabbed nine rebounds, had two assists, and one steal.
Junior Lynsey Enlebrecht contributed 13 points and led the team with three steals while sophomore Dana Fricke came off the bench and scored 13 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting, all career-highs. Junior Shannon Zajec was the final Oilers player with double-figures as she scored ten points on the strength of 2-of-2 from deep.
As a team, Findlay shot 38-of-77 from the floor, both season-highs. They also shot 20-of-27 from the charity stripe, both of which were also season-high marks. The 11 three-pointers made and 28 threes attempted were also season-highs.
The Oilers are back in action tomorrow, Dec. 30 when they take on St. Joseph's (Ind.) at 5:30 pm in Croy Gymnasium.
