Bonar Sets Record | Oilers Win Second Straight

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team made it back-to-back wins with a 62-46 victory on Friday, Dec. 30 against St. Joseph's (Ind.). With the victory, the Oilers even their record at 7-7 overall and 1-5 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play.

The night was made a little sweeter for senior Karli Bonar as a three-pointer with nine and a half minutes to play gave her 233 threes in her career, establishing a new Findlay record. She would finish the night with five triples and a season-high 17 points. She made six-of-nine field goals, grabbed three rebounds, had two steals, and two assists.

Findlay, which has not allowed an opponent to shoot over 50% this season, held the Pumas to just 15-of-45 (.333) from the floor and forced the visiting team into 19 turnovers, seven of which were steals.

As a team, the Oilers connected on 23-of-56 from the floor for 41.1% including 9-of-18 from deep. Findlay won the rebounding battle 37-32, had more points off turnovers (18-13), points in the paint (26-20), and bench points (25-13).

Junior Lynsey Englebrecht joined Bonar as a double-digit scorer as she picked up ten points in her 21 minutes of action. The sharpshooter connected on three shots from deep and hit one free-throw.

Junior Haley Horstman played a solid game as she scored eight points and set a new season-high with five assists while sophomore Allie Thobe had three assists as well as three steals and six points.

Junior Sarah Baer and sophomore Anna Hintz led the Oilers with seven rebounds each while sophomore Jenna Stegmaier picked up six.

Findlay will get back into GLIAC play on Jan. 5 when they host Saginaw Valley State in a game scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm.
