Fast Start Gives Oilers 600th Program Win

Findlay, OH - The University of Findlay women's basketball team earned their first conference road win of the season with a 62-53 victory at Ohio Dominican on Thursday, Feb. 9. The Oilers even up their record at 12-12 on the season with a 6-10 mark in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play. A significant milestone was also reached as the win was the 600th in the 38 year history of the women's basketball program at Findlay.

After giving up the first basket, the Oilers jumped into the lead courtesy of hot shooting from sophomore Elissa Ellerbrock. The Ottawa, Ohio native drilled three triples to put Findlay up 9-2. She would finish the quarter with 12 points with her team ahead by a score of 17-9 after one quarter and 31-17 at halftime.

Out of the break, the Panthers came roaring back and put together a 16-2 run in the first five and a half minutes to tie the game at 33-33, but Findlay hit four threes in the final quarter to secure the victory.

Ellerbrock tied her career-high with 12 points, all of which came in the first quarter. She also had four rebounds, two assists, and two steals in her 26 minutes of action.

Junior guard Haley Horstman scored when her team needed it most, scoring ten points in the fourth quarter alone. In total, sh dropped in 18 points on seven-of-ten from the floor including two-of-four from beyond the arc. She had three assists while sophomore Jenna Stegmaier led the team with five assists, a career-high.

As a team, Findlay shot 22-of-53 (41.5%) from the floor and hit 10-of-23 (43.5%) from deep while holding the Panthers to just 19-of-58 (32.8%) from the floor and only 3-of-18 (16.7%) from three point range. 

Findlay plays next on Saturday, Feb. 11 when they take on Lake Erie College in Painesville, OH. That game begins at 1:00pm.
