Box Score

Columbus, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team played a rare Tuesday game on January 5 in Columbus against the Ohio Dominican Panthers. The Oilers only lead of the game was on the first bucket, a three by Allison Utterback to open the contest. From then on it was the Panthers who were in control and went on to a 94-77 victory over the Oilers. With the loss, Findlay falls to 3-4 on the year while ODU improves to 4-1 which is second-best in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) standings.

After the Oilers three to open the game, Ohio Dominican scored the next 11 points to take an eight-point lead three minutes into the game and went on to a 19-17 lead through the first ten minutes of play. Then came the second quarter.

Both teams got red hot from the floor as the game started to be played much more quickly. ODU and Findlay combined to shoot 57% from the field and scored 54 points. The Panthers, which scored 30 in the quarter, were led by senior Angela Troyer who scored ten points in that frame. Troyer, who came in averaging 22.3 points per game, poured in a career-high 34 points to lead the home team.

Findlay's Sydney Kin got hot in the second quarter as well as she shot 6-of-7 from the floor en route to 14 points in that ten minutes stretch. However, the Oilers would trail 49-41 at the half.

The Oilers would cut that lead to four at 60-56 on a three by Rachel Cooke halfway through the third quarter and would trail by just five heading into the fourth, but a 13-4 run to end the game was enough for the Panthers to secure their fourth victory of the season.

For ODU, it was their fourth time this season they've scored more than 90 points and was their best shooting performance of the year, making 51% of their shots from the floor including a season-best 15-of-32 (.469) from beyond the arc.

Findlay shoot .441 in the game (30-for-68) and hit just 4-of-13 from deep. It was the third time this season that the Orange and Black eclipsed the 20-turnover mark, as well, as they would cough the ball up 21 times.

In the loss, Sydney Kin shined, putting together arguably the best performance of her career. The junior from Carey, Ohio finished with a season-high 30 points on 14-of-19 shooting while grabbing a career-high 19 rebounds, ten of which came on the offensive glass. She also had a career-high four steals.

Junior Paige Bellman also had a great game as she came off the bench to score a career-high 21 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 7-of-8 from the charity stripe.

Sophomore Rachel Cooke scored eight points and led the team with four assists while senior Allison Utterback and junior Bridget Landin scored six. Landin had four rebounds, four assists, and a pair of blocked shots.

Findlay looks to get back on track on Friday, Jan. 8 when they return to Croy to take on the Malone Pioneers. That game will tip at 5:30 pm.
