Oilers Go Ice Cold in Tiffin | End Regular Season

Box Score

Tiffin, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 60-44 loss to the Tiffin Dragons on Thursday, Feb. 25 in Tiffin, Ohio. The 44 points for Findlay are the least amount of points scored in a game since scoring 43 points in a game against Grand Valley State in December of 2016. With the defeat, the Oilers wrap up the year with an 11-10 record while the Dragons end their regular season with a record of 13-8. The Dragons are a lock for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament while the Oilers will have to wait and see how Saturday's games play out, although currently in seventh in the point standings, appear to be in good shape to earn a postseason bid.

The first quarter went as well for the Dragons, who were celebrating Senior Night, as they could have hoped. The home team jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Findlay and, after a bucket by Bridget Landin three minutes into the game, went on a 14-2 run over the remainder of the quarter. That run gave the Dragons a convincing 18-4 lead through ten minutes of play.

Findlay, which never led in the game, battled in the second quarter but still trailed by a score of 30-15 going into halftime, scoring just 11 points in the second quarter.

Another 11-point quarter in the third had the Oilers down by 12 with ten minutes to play, but it was too little, too late as the Dragons, which lead the G-MAC in scoring defense at 64 points per game allowed, would hang on for the victory.

Neither team shot the ball well, but it was the Oilers who were ice cold, hitting just 14-of-55 shots from the field for 25.5%, their lowest shooting percentage in a game since they made 24% against Grand Valley State on Jan. 3 of the 2015-16 season.

The Oilers were outrebounded by Tiffin by a 42-to-33 margin and had three more turnovers than the Dragons at 20-to-17.

Findlay was led in scoring by junior Bridget Landin who scored 14 points on 4-of-13 from the floor and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe. Landin also had ten rebounds to pick up her sixth double-double of the year.

Junior Paige Bellman scored eight points and grabbed 11 rebounds while junior Amber Schweiger scored six points and junior Lily Simon came off the bench and chipped in five points.

Junior Sydney Kin, the nation's seventh leading scorer at more than 22 points per game, was held to just four points on 1-of-4 from the field. It is the first time this season Kin has been held to single digits in the scoring column.

Findlay will await the weekend's action to find out their tournament fate. Should they earn a tournament bid, the Oilers will play on Tuesday, Feb. 2 and will be on the road. That game will be streamed on the Great Midwest Digital Network regardless of who is the host.
