Buzzer Beater in OT Leads to Oilers First Victory

Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball won their home opener tonight, Friday, Nov. 19 against Davenport University 71-68. Despite trailing late in the third quarter, the Oilers would tie the game in the fourth quarter to force overtime which led to a buzzer beater three to give the Oilers their first win of the season. This brings their record to 1-2 and 0-0 in conference play.  

The Panthers dominated the first quarter, outscoring the Oilers 26 to 10. The Oilers would go on a nine-point run in the second quarter but would still trail by 13 at the end of the half. 

In the third quarter, the Oilers battled back to cut the Panthers lead to 4.  However, due to turnovers the Oilers would still trail the Panthers 54-45 heading into the fourth quarter.  

The Oilers outscored the Panthers 20-11 in the fourth quarter. Findlay went on an eight-point run midway through the fourth quarter to tie the game. The lead would change multiple times to end the fourth quarter but the game ultimately ended tied at 65-65. 

The game would enter a five-minute overtime period where Findlay and Davenport would continue a back-and-forth lead change. It was with 00:01 that Sydney Kin would sink a three-pointer to send the Panthers packing.  

Senior Sydney Kin led the way for Findlay, making 11-of-18 from the field to finish with 26 points. She also had a team-high eleven rebounds and contributed two assists.  

Also scoring in double-figures was senior Bridget Landin who put up 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Senior Amber Schweiger chipped in 7 points and led the team in assists and steals with 5 and 4 respectively. Freshman Janae Hoying assisted with 5 points.  

Findlay is back in action Sunday, Nov. 21 in Niekamp arena against Grand Valley State at 1pm.
