Findlay Rolls Past Ohio Dominican

Box Score

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's basketball team never trailed on Saturday, Dec. 11, rolling to a 70-47 victory over the Ohio Dominican Panthers. The Oilers' victory gives them a 3-5 record overall with a 2-2 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while the Panthers fall to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in conference.

Ohio Domincan began the game ice cold from the floor, missing their first 12 shots of the contest that spanned more than five minutes. Through the first ten minutes, the Oilers held a 15-7 advantage.

The game picked up in the second quarter as Findlay hit 53% of their shots and ODU made 42% in the frame. Led by senior Bridget Landin's eight points in the quarter, Findlay outscored the Panthers 22-17 in that period and held a 37-24 lead at the half.

In the first five minutes of the second half, ODU outscored the Oilers 11-5 and pulled to within five points at 42-35. However, Findlay then flexed its' muscle over the remainder of the period as the home squad went on a 13-3 run to take a 55-38 advantage with just ten minutes remaining in the game, ultimatley securing the 23-point victory.

Findlay shot 456% in the contest, making 28-of-61 field goals while ODU hit on just 25% of their shots, making only 16-of-65 from the floor. ODU had a 44-42 advantage on the glass, but it was the Oilers who dominated in the paint, scoring 42 points from inside the key to just eight points in the paint for the Panthers.

One area of concern all season for Findlay has been turnovers, but on Saturday, the Oilers had a season-low of ten miscues while forcing ODU into 16. Those 16 turnovers for the Panthers led to 16 fast break points for the Orange and Black.

Senior Sydney Kin led the Oilers with 14 points on 7-of-12 from the floor. The Carey, Ohio native also snagged 11 rebounds, tied for the team-high with Bridget Landin. Landin secured a double-double, as well, by scoring 11 points. Landin also had three steals.

Junior Lauren Hapgood scored 11 points on three-of-six from beyond the arc. Senior Paige Bellman was also a spark off the bench, scoring ten points and grabbing eight rebounds in the contest. She also had a game-high three blocks.

Senior Amber Schweiger scored six points and, along with freshman Chloe Callahan, tied for the team lead with four assists. Freshman Janae Hoying also had six points in the game and picked up three steals.

Findlay will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 18 when they will be playing on the road against Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
