Third Quarter Struggles Hurt Findlay at Walsh | Kin Into 4th on All-Time Scoring List

North Canton, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team saw a three-game win streak come to an end on Thursday, Feb. 10 on the road in an 80-64 loss at the hands of the Walsh Cavaliers. The 14-point loss gives the Oilers a 9-12 record on the year and a 7-8 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Walsh, who is receiving votes in the latest NCAA DII Top 25 Poll, improves to an impressive 20-3 mark and a 15-2 record in the G-MAC.

The two teams went back-and-forth in the opening period, but it was the Cavaliers who held a 14-12 advantage through ten minutes of play. Walsh then went ahead by as much as eight points in the second quarter before a quick 7-0 run by Findlay made the score 25-24 with 2:41 to play in the half which ultimately ended with the Cavs on top by four at 30-26.

Findlay would tie the game at 32 just three minutes into the third period, but a 15-3 run over the next five minutes put the Cavaliers in control of the game and the home team would go on to secure their 12th straight victory.

The Oilers struggled from the floor, hitting just 23-of-59 (39%) from the floor while the Cavaliers weren't much better, hitting 28-of-66 (42.4%). Walsh got a big contribution from behind the arc, however, making nine triple attempts in the contest and shooting 43% from range.

Findlay held a 41-to-33 advantage on the glass but turned the ball over 15 times while forcing just eight.

Senior Sydney Kin was the Oilers leading scorer as she scored 21 points in the contest. On her third bucket, Kin surpassed 1,400 points in her career and now sits in fourth on Findlay's all-time scoring list, currently 78 points behind Anna Hintz who scored 1,493 points from 2015-19. Kin also grabbed ten rebounds in the game and passed Julie Flowers (1986-89) for fourth on the all-time rebounding list, as well.

Senior Bridget Landin also had a double-double, scoring 14 points and collecting 12 rebounds. She also picked up three assists and two steals. Freshman Janae Hoying reached double figures, as well, scoring 13 points.

Senior Amber Schweiger scored eight points, had four rebounds, and led the team with four assists.

Findlay is back at home on Saturday, Feb. 12 when they will host the Malone Pioneers in Croy at 1:00 pm.
