Oilers Roll Past Lake Erie

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's basketball team continued to roll on Thursday, Feb. 17 picking up a convincing 79-63 victory over the Storm of Lake Erie College. With the win, the Oilers pull to 12-12 on the year and now are two games above the .500 mark in conference, posting a record of 10-8 in Great Midwet Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Lake Erie has been struggling this season and drops to 2-23 overall and 1-18 in the conference. Findlay has now won seven of its last nine games, all of which have been conference matchups.

The Oilers never trailed in the game and pulled away early, taking a 25-12 lead through ten minutes of play. The lead ultimately ballooned to 20 points at 53-33 with 5:58 left in the third quarter, but before the quarter had ended, the Storm shrunk that lead to just 12 points, making the score 59-47.

With just over three minutes remaining in the game, Lake Erie pulled to within single-digits for the first time since the first quarter when a layup by Angela Fink made the score 69-61. From that point on, Findlay flexed its' muscle one final time, going on an 10-2 run over the remainder of the game to secure the victory.

Both teams shot 48% on the night despite combining for just 1-17 from three-point range. The Oilers made 18-of-19 from the free-throw line and had a 34-27 advantage on the glass. Findlay also forced the Storm into 21 turnovers which led to 20 points-off-turnovers for the home team.

Senior Sydney Kin was the leading scorer for the Oilers as she put together her fourth consecutive 20+ point performance, scoring 22 points on 10-of-15 shooting. She also grabbed 14 rebounds, had a game-high four steals to lead the Oilers to the win. Fellow senior forward Bridget Landin had 18 points on 8-of-17 from the floor while adding three rebounds, three asssits, and three steals.

Freshman guard Janae Hoying chipped in eight points, three assists, and two steals while junior Serena Sammarone had eight points and four assists.

Lake Erie's Breanna Bauer was the leading scorer for the Storm, pouring in 21 points, 20 of which came in the first half.
