Oilers Find Way to Win On the Road | Take Down Arrows

Pepper Pike, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team traveled to Pepper Pike to take on Ursuline College on Saturday, Feb. 19. The Oilers would rally to win the game 69-68. With the victory, Findlay moves to 13-12 on the year with a 11-8 mark in conference play while the Arrows fall to 10-13 and 7-11 in the league. Findlay has now won eight of its last ten games, all of which have been conference matchups.

Findlay shot the ball well in the first quarter, making 57% of their attempts, but the Arrows would shoot 62% including four three-pointers. This proved costly as the Oilers would trail 23-20 heading into the second quarter. The Oilers would fight back in the second quarter making 75% of their field goal attempts and 66% from behind the arc. The Oilers would outscore the arrows 20-14. Findlay took the lead going into halftime 40-37.

The Oilers extended their lead even further, taking their largest lead of the game in the fourth quarter after a free-throw by Kate Ellis. This gave the Oilers a 63-54 advantage with only 6:03 remaining in the game.

Trailing by 8 with 4:52 left in the contest, Ursuline, went on a 9-2 run to pull within one point with 1:07 seconds remaining. Due to missed free throws by the Oilers, the Arrows had one possesion to take the win, however, the Oilers defense stood tall, forcing a miss by the Arrows, giving the Orange and Black the win.

The Oilers shot it well, making 29-of-51 from the floor for 56.9% while the Arrows hit 25-of-56 for 44.6%. Findlay hit three triples while Ursuline connected on nine from deep.

Findlay outrebounded Ursuline 25-21 but committed 17 turnovers. Ursuline turned those 17 turnovers into 21 points while Findlay picked up 17 points off the 17 Ursuline miscues.

Senior Sydney Kin led the Oilers once again, scoring 25 points in the game on 12-of-18 from the floor and 1-of-1 from the charity stripe. She also grabbed four rebounds. This is Kin's fifth consecutive 20+ point performance. 

Senior Bridget Landin, led the team with eight rebounds and was second on the squad with 17 points.

For Ursuline, Alyssa Evans led the way with 19 points.

Findlay is on the road again this Wednesday, Feb. 23 to take on Ashland University before they head home to take on Ashland University again in Croy Gymnasium. Both games are scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 pm.
