Oilers Fall in G-MAC Semifinals | Landin Scores Career High

Ashland, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team saw their 2022 Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Tournament run come to an end on Friday, March 4 with a 71-67 loss at the hands of the first-seeded Ashland University. The loss ends the Oilers season with a 15-15 record and 12-10 in the G-MAC. The Eagles, ranked fourth in the nation, head to the championship game.  

Findlay jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring back-to-back layups. Ashland would then go on a 17-4 run to take a nine-point lead with two minutes left in the first quarter. The Oilers would head into the second quarter down seven points. The next ten minutes were back and forth. The Oilers would go into halftime down six, 41-35. 

Both the Oilers and the Eagles would struggle in the third quarter. Findlay would score eight points, to the Eagles eleven. The Oilers were down eleven headed into the fourth quarter but would pull within five with two minutes remaining. After a three-point play by Bridget Landin, the Oilers were down four with 49 seconds remaining. The Eagles then hit two free-throws before Landin headed back up the court to keep the Oilers within four with 18 seconds to play. With no timeouts remaining, the Oilers fouled the Eagles. The Oilers would then get the ball back down six with fourteen seconds to play. The Oilers would miss a three pointer and Sydney Kin would grab the rebound and put it back up to leave the Oilers down four as the clock ran out. 

In the game, Findlay outshot the Eagles, making 54.7% to AU's 47.4%. However, the Eagles, took advantage from the charity stripe, connecting 15 for 16, making 93.8% compared to the Oilers who make 5 of 8, making 62.5%. 

The Eagles also took advantage of Findlay's miscues, scoring 17 points off of the Oilers' 16 turnovers. 

For Findlay, senior Bridget Landin led the way, scoring a career high 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting from the floor. Landin's previous career high came against Hillsdale on Dec. 3, 2020 where she put up 27 points. Landin, who earned second team all-G-MAC connected on three of four from beyond the arc. She also contributed five rebounds and two assists.  

Senior Sydney Kin scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to pick up a double-double for the night. Sophomore Lauren Hapgood scored eight points. 

Serena Sammarone and Kate Ellis both contributed six points.
