Oilers Fall Short of Late Game Comeback | Drop Road Game

Erie, Pa.- The Oilers hit the road for a non-conference matchup against Gannon University, today, Dec. 8. The 65-57 loss gives the Oilers a 3-5 record on the year as they remain 0-2 in Great Midwest play. Meanwhile, Gannon moves to 7-2 overall.

Findlay trailed early as the Golden Knight's took an early 12-2 lead through three minutes of play. However, the Oilers would go on a 8-3 run to pull within five heading into the second quarter. The Oilers couldn't quite reach Gannon as they would fall another four points in the second quarter to leave themselves down 34-25 heading into the half. 

Gannon took their largest lead at twelve points with five minutes remaining in the third quarter. However, the Oilers never gave up as they tied the game at 53 with four minutes left in the fourth quarter. But a missed layup followed by four consecutive turnovers gave Findlay their fifth loss of the season.

Neither team ever got hot from the floor as the Oilers made 23-of-54 (.426) while Gannon hit 23-of-50 (.460). The Golden Knights outrebounded the Oilers as they grabbed 34 to Findlay's 25. 

Findlay did limit their turnovers in this contest as they recorded just fifteen with four of them coming in the last two minutes of the fourth quarter. Gannon recorded 21 turnovers which Findlay was able to turn into 22 points. Notably, the Oilers did outscore the Golden Knights in the pain as they recorded 36, outscoring them by 12. 

The Oilers were led by senior Serena Sammarone who recorded 12 points in the game, going 5-10 from the floor and 1-2 deep. She also added a team-high five assists, while tallying four steals and three rebounds.

Junior Kate Ellis recorded ten points and five rebounds. Sophomore Chloe Callahan recorded nine points in the loss.

The Oilers will be back in action Saturday, Dec. 10 as they take on the Tiffin Dragons at 1pm.
