Oilers Suffer Road Loss to Hillsdale

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team hit the road for a midweek matchup against the Hillsdale Chargers, Tuesday, Dec. 13. The 62-57 loss moves the Oilers to a 4-6 record on the year while falling to 1-3 in Great Midwest play. With the win, the Chargers improve to 4-6 on the year and 2-3 in conference play.

Findlay took an early lead in the contest, leading by seven at the half. The Oiler lead would grow to 11 in the third quarter but within 3.5 minutes, Hillsdale trailed by one after going on a  13-3 run. However, the Oilers were able to maintain a lead throughout the rest of the contest until the five minute mark of the fourth quarter. From there, the score was back-and-forth with neither team taking more than a two point lead. 

With 27 seconds remaining in the contest, Findlay found themselves down two with the ball. After a timeout by Coach Durand, the Oilers had one last look to give themselves the win. But a missed shot and a Hillsdale rebound put an end to the Oilers last ditch attempt.

On the night, the Oilers connected on 23-of-61 (.377) from the floor including 5-of-17 (.294) from deep. Hillsdale connected on 21-of-57 (.368) from the field and 7-of-18 (.389) from three-point range. The Oilers outscored the Chargers under the basket, scoring 26 points in the paint to their 26.

Most notably, Findlay recorded 14 turnovers in the game which resulted in 16 points for the home team.  

Leading the Oilers, once again,was junior Kate Ellis. Ellis recorded 14 points and six rebounds. She was 5-of-10 from the floor and shot 4-of-5 from the charity stripe. 

Also scoring in double-figures were junior Valerie Muhlenkamp and senior Lauren Hapgood. Both players added 12 points each. Muhlenkamp grabbed five rebounds. Leading the Oilers in rebounds was freshman Alyssa Ziehler who recorded seven, setting a career high.

The Oilers will be back in action as they hit the road to take on Northwood, Saturday, Dec. 17 in Croy Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00pm.
