Findlay Falls to Visiting Wayne State

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay women's basketball team hosted the Wayne State Warriors Monday, Dec. 19 in a non-conference matchup. The Oilers came up short, falling by a score of 68-55 against their in-region opponent from Detroit, Michigan. With the loss, Findlay falls to 4-8 on the season and Wayne State improves to 7-3.

The first quarter saw back-and-forth action as both teams scored 16 points in the first ten minutes. Wayne State captured the momentum in the second quarter as they scored nine unanswered points taking less than two minutes off the clock, giving the Warriors the lead at halftime, one they would not relinquish.

Findlay hit just 21-59 (.356) from the floor while Wayne State made 22-of-49 (.449). Neither team was successful from long today as Findlay went 2-of-18 (.111) and Wayne State went 4-14 (.286). 

The Warriors were intentional about getting the ball down low, scoring 36 points in the paint to the Oilers' 30, on the glass, Wayne State held a 40-to-31 advantage. 

Sophomore Janae Hoying led the way with 12 points, hitting 5-of-11 from the floor, including 1-of-4 from three. She also grabbed three rebounds.

Sophomore Chloe Callahan scored 10 points and had two rebounds and two steals. Freshman Alyssa Ziehler scored a career-high nine points while grabbing seven rebounds and adding two steals. Junior Valerie Muhlenkamp had a game-high seven rebounds also to go along with six points and two assists.

The Oilers hit the road for their next contest, traveling north to take on Bowling Green State University on Dec. 30 at 2pm.
