Oilers Fall to Tough Battle with Panthers on the Road

Owensboro, Ky. – The University of Findlay Oilers continued their games in the south on Saturday, Feb. 11 to take on Kentucky Wesleyan College. The Panthers took back a strongly battled game in the fourth quarter for a 60-47 victory. The OilerS fall to 6-19 overall and 3-14 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. With this victory, the Panthers record moves to 19-5 overall and 15-2 in the conference.

Findlay opened the game with a three-point lead but by the five-minute mark, the Kentucky Wesleyan had gained their footing and with that took the reins. The first period ended with the Panthers winning by seven points. The Panthers expanded their lead with a 35-23 score at halftime. The Oilers only allowed one point to be scored by the Panthers in the first five minutes of the second half. After the timeout, both teams came out swinging. The Oilers putting up 13 points ending the half down by four. Both teams ended the game in double bonus going to the free throw line five times for the Panthers and four times for the Oilers. Ultimately, KW outscored the Oilers and claimed a 60-47 victory.

Findlay hit 18-50 (.360) from the floor and 5-13 (.385) for three pointers while Kentucky Wesleyan shot 21-49 (.429) and 6-21 (.286) from deep. The Oilers has 32 rebounds and the Panthers had 34.

Freshman Alyssa Ziehler played an outstanding game landing her first double-double of her career; 15 points and 10 rebounds. A second for the Oilers this season since Kate Ellis vs. Edinboro on Nov. 12. Junior Kate Ellis put 12 points on the board for the team. Senior Amber Schweiger and sophomore Mckenna Stephens had six rebounds each and senior Lauren Hapgood added another six points to the Oilers total.

Most notably, senior Amber Schweiger recorded five assists today. With her perfromance today, Schweiger has now recorded 431 career assists surpassing the previous record set by Audra Mihalic from 2007-10.

Findlay is back on the court when they host Cedarville at home Saturday, Feb. 18 for the Breast Cancer Awareness Game. That game is sccheduled to tip off at 1pm.
